I’m excited to share with you all about getting started with AeroGarden Indoor Gardening. Can I have gardening success with an AeroGarden? I’m about to find out and I’m sharing a photojournal of my experience.

Don’t ever let me care for your plants. Kids? Sure. Pets? You betcha. But plants? Don’t even think about it.
You would think a plant would be easy, but somehow I complicate the whole situation and they always die after a short while of being in my care. I either give them too much water, or I give them too little. Somehow they get too much light, or not enough. I don’t know how some of you do it, but I accepted the fact a long time ago that I don’t have a green thumb.
Lucky for me, I really don’t care about having household plants. But when it comes to growing fruits and vegetables, I do like the idea of slicing up fresh tomatoes for a sandwich. Or perhaps adding herbs I’ve grown into one of my recipes.
But, I figured I’d spend a bunch of money on everything, put hours and hours (and hours?) worth of work in, only to fail at it. I just don’t feel confident when it comes to growing a garden.
There is an alternative, though, that has caught my eye — the AeroGarden. I’ve seen AeroGarden commercials over the years, and it certainly did look like something that I could have success with…but would I really? Would I have any luck with with AeroGarden Indoor Gardening?
Well, I’m giving it a try as I’m now the owner of the AeroGarden Ultra LED. I’m excited to share my experience with you, so if you have a hard time keeping plants alive, or know someone else who does, you’ll definitely want to follow along in my experience.
When my AeroGarden arrived, I opened the box and I was immediately concerned that it would be complicated to set up.
I didn’t have any reason to be concerned because it only took only about 5 minutes to set up. Seriously — so easy.
The AeroGarden Ultra has a control panel on the front that guided me through all the steps. I loved this feature and found it incredibly comforting that it would tell me exactly what to do.
The control panel instructed me to fill the water bowl, and according to the instructions it will also tell me when the water level gets low. This is such a relief to me because under-watering, or over-watering, has been my issues with plants in the past. There are even nutrients that you are instructed to add. They will have to be added again in 14 days, but the control panel will alert me to this.
After the water and the nutrients, I was ready to plant my pods. I thought I was going to have to use force to insert them, but I didn’t. They drop right into the holes in the grow deck without any effort.
The seed pod kit came with Grow Domes, which creates little “mini greenhouses” for the seed germination. I placed those on top and kept watch, waiting for my seedlings to appear.
After about 3-4 days, my first seedlings had appeared! It was so exciting to see them. I really didn’t expect to see them starting to grow so soon, so that was really cool. The kids have been excited about it too, and they regularly check up on our AeroGarden to see how it’s doing.
Right around day 5 is when I realized I had made a mistake with my AeroGarden. Before placing my pods, the control panel asked me which plant I was planting. I selected herbs because I had thought I was putting the Gourmet Herb Seed Pods in. Apparently, I grabbed the wrong box (the Heirloom Lettuce) and didn’t realize it until about 5 days into the process. I wasn’t sure what to do, since I had programmed the AeroGarden for herbs, but was obviously growing lettuce.
I made a quick call to the AeroGarden customer service to explain my problem and they were very helpful! I was so worried I had messed everything up, but it looks like the AeroGarden really is perfect for a beginner like me.
After about 7-8 days, my Heirloom Lettuce is growing great!
Right now there is only enough lettuce for a tiny hamster to eat a tiny salad, but I’m following all the instructions on the control panel screen and am looking so forward to showing its growth after a few more weeks.
This might sound rather ambitious of me, but next month, I’ll be sharing a recipe with you that I am going to create with the LETTUCE THAT I GROW! Yep…you read that correctly. It will be the first time ever that I’ve made something with vegetables that I’ve grown, but I have high hopes for my AeroGarden. I can’t wait to give you an update next month, but you can also follow me on Instagram where I’ll share a few shots of the growth.
Are you interested in getting an AeroGarden of your own? Or perhaps you know someone who would love to start their own indoor garden? You can find them on Amazon.com.
