Last week, our family we took a drive down to the Las Vegas Strip. Our destination: Fatburger — a burger restaurant that is located a bit north of the MGM Grand on Las Vegas Blvd. Our kids love it when we try new places, and that fact that it was on the Strip makes it even cooler.
Our plan was for my husband and I, and our adult daughter, to do something that we’ve never done –participate in an eating challenge. At Fatburger, they have what they call the Fatburger XXXL Challenge. It means eating a HUGE burger — 24 oz of meat (weight before cooking). I personally prepared myself by not eating much at all that day…I wasn’t sure if I could succeed, but I was sure going to try!
The best way to explain Fatburger is that it’s an upscale fast food place. Don’t expect cheap prices, but don’t expect frozen meat patties either. The burgers are fresh and made to order. And, to put it simply, if you like meat, this is the place for you.
It’s my understanding that this Fatburger location on the Strip has been recently remodeled. I can’t speak about how it looked before but I loved the design of it now. The ceiling had a bright yellow and red checkerboa

I thought the main wall in the restaurant was particularly cool. It had their Fatburger logo, plus the names of lots of their other locations, such as San Diego, Reno, Vancouver, Bahrain, South Korea…and more. Considering that Vegas has visitors from all over the world, I can imagine tourists will enjoy seeing this.
Here’s a shot of their outside bar and patio (taken from inside the restaurant). Right now it’s appears to be under renovations, but I thought that it would be a fun area for people to hang out and have a drink. It’s located right between the restaurant and the sidewalk on the Strip, so it would make a fun place to people watch and hang out.
Near the self-service beverage area, there is a wall of photos of customers who completed the XXX Challenge. When you complete the challenge, you get a certificate, plus your photo is taken for this wall. If we succeed, you’ll see us on this wall too.
We ordered Mattie and Courtney the medium sized Fatburger, which is a 5.3 oz patty (before cooking). This was the perfect size for Mattie, although Courtney mentioned that she would probably get the small size next time. We ordered three sides too: skinny fries, fat fries, and onion rings, which we all shared.
And here is the XXXL Fatburger! They were promoting their Three Stooges XXXL Fatburger, which added a fried egg, chili, and a bacon to their usual XXXL Fatburger. David and I got this, but Noelle opted for the usual one. Needless to say, this thing is HUGE. It’s a massive amount of meat and more meat. I attempted to eat it by holding it like you do a regular sized burger, but it was near impossible for me to eat. We all end up getting forks and eating it that way.
David was the first to finish — I figured he would be! He said the burgers are really good, but mentioned that he’ll be getting something smaller one next time. I agree.
I finished second — but about half way through my burger, I was starting to wonder if I’d be able to do it. I was determined though! Noelle struggled even more than David and I did, but she finished too. One of their employeee, Jarred, kept watch on us and as soon as we were finished, he alerted the manager who came over and presented us with our certificates and took our photo for their XXX Challenge photo wall.
Overall, we really enjoyed our visit, it was a lot of fun, and we would definitely come back. The food was really good. While, yes, the XXXL burger is truly too much for me, I can say that the burger was fresh and great quality. The prices are a bit high (and it’s my understand
I also have to mention their customer service. I was very impressed with all of the employees we came in contact with (the girl taking our order, the manager, and Jarred who was cleaning tables) — everyone was incredibly nice. They get a an A++ for customer service.
If you are on the Strip and want a quality burger…e

Worst place to eat in Vegas. Ate there last year and was very disappointed. I go to Vegas every year and there are so many better places to eat at. Try the Pepper Mill or even Ellis Isand. These two places will not disappoint

Wow! I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the triple Decker in person. I usually go to the one off of Fort Apache and it’s super quiet. But I bet the strip has all kinds of fun things happening down there. Good People watching 🙂
