Are you a do-it-yourself person or a do-it-for-me person? If you are a DIFM (do it for me) type of person, you’ll want to know about Redbeacon, a free online service that matches you with pros for home-service projects, which we used for our recent kitchen faucet installation.
There are simple home repair tasks that my husband or I can handle, but sometimes we just don’t want to do it. And, there are lots of things we don’t feel comfortable doing. Like electrical stuff — freaks me out having my husband mess with it.
In both of these cases, it’s just easier to hire someone else to do it. It’s a huge weight off of our shoulders and my husband can spend his time off from work doing other things that he enjoys more.
We’ve made a list of some home improvements we want to make in our kitchen (in order of preference) — the caulking around our sink needs replacing, our grout needs work, our cheap kitchen faucet needed to go (we really wanted one with a sprayer), and we wanted to update the kitchen with some new paint.
Unfortunately, our kitchen faucet handle broke not long after making that list.
I dealt with the broken kitchen faucet for about a week or two. I would carefully turn the water on and off to avoid the handle coming off, but most of the time I was unsuccessful. The handle would come off in my hand and then I would play an annoying game of matching up the little pointy thing with the little hole to get it back on. This would happen over and over again when I was cooking or washing dishes.
I had enough, so the faucet was bumped up to top priority on our kitchen improvement list. We headed to our local Home Depot to buy a new faucet. There were so many awesome ones that I would have loved to have, but my budget was for one that cost no more than $100. And the faucet we chose HAD to have a sprayer. We ended up picking a nice Delta faucet — see my red arrow…it’s right there.
While we were at Home Depot, I spotted this Redbeacon advertisement — remember how I said some things we just don’t want to do ourselves? Yeah, this faucet would be one of them. With my husband’s long hours at work, plus remembering some issues from the last time we installed a faucet, we really liked the idea of a pro installing it.
Back at home, I went to Redbeacon’s website (it’s a free online service that matches you with background-checked pros for home-service projects). Within moments, I was arranging for a handyman to come to our house to install our new faucet.
Want to know what I like the most about Redbeacon? I liked that I didn’t have to call around on the phone. My dad always taught me to get the best prices on services — no matter if it was home repairs or car repairs. He would NEVER take the first price quote he got from someone and always called around to 3-5 business to get the best deal.
Well, I love that I could follow my dad’s wise advice, BUT, in a more modern way. I did everything on my computer — I received 4 price quotes from available handymen in Las Vegas and was able to check reviews on each one. I even selected my handyman on the website and arranged the day and time. I loved how easy it was.
My licensed handyman showed up and took out our old, not-sorry-to-see-it-go faucet.
Then he installed our new pretty one…with a sprayer! The husband is so happy about that part.
I’m so glad to have my new faucet and that we had a handyman #DIFM. Remember how I said we had issues with installing a faucet? Well, some of those same issues presented itself to our handyman. But, he knew was he was doing and fixed it easily — where it took us MUCH longer last time. It saved my husband lots of frustration (and that in itself made hiring a handyman WELL worth it).
