Melissa & Doug Terrific Twenty List and Giveaway

Melissa & Doug Terrific Twenty List and Giveaway

When I was little, my sister Danielle and I would play “apartments”. Apartments is just like playing house, except, well, you live in a apartment. I would live in one apartment (one of the bedrooms in our house) and down the hall, Danielle would live in another apartment (another bedroom). We each had a mailbox, of course. And we had a library. And we would have a store too, where you could buy stuff.

We also called this playing “Jenny and Sally”. I was Jenny and she was Sally. I would say that Jenny and Sally were hip, young women, living out on their own. Our sister Shana also played with us some times, but it was always Danielle and I….Jenny and Sally.

Jenny and Sally, or playing apartments, is something that was remembered by all as we entered adulthood. Shortly after Danielle passed away last November, my Dad and I talked about our Jenny and Sally days. He loved those memories. And so do I.

We didn’t have a lot of money as kids, but we found all sorts of different ways to play, use our imagination, and have fun. Playing “apartment” or “Jenny and Sally” was one way, and there were more. The memories we created together are the ones that allow me to hold my sister close in my thoughts.

In honor of my special Jenny and Sally memories, I am holding a giveaway.

When I saw this Melissa & Doug Grocery Basket, which is part of the Melissa & Doug Terrific Twenty Holiday List, I thought about how cool it would have been for Danielle and I to have this for our pop-up grocery store when we were kids.

Let's Play House! Grocery Basket with Play Food

I would have set up all the groceries, just like a real grocery store, and Sally would have come and picked up her basket and did her shopping. She’d have to pay me, of course, with money that we made out of whatever paper we could find. Our pretend play was already fun, but this would have made it even cooler.

We don’t have a pet, so my kids take turns pretending to be a dog while the others feed them doggy treats (Cheerios)

I would give it to my grandson Carter! I am planning on getting him a kitchen set for Christmas cause he loves playing with the food so much at daycare!
