A couple days before my birthday this year, my husband and kids said that they were going shopping. I figured it was for me, but I had no clue what they planned. I did know they were going to the mall, so for all I knew that would mean a trip to Bath and Body Works.
But on my birthday, I learned what the big surprise was – my husband and oldest son went in together to buy me a new food processor to replace my old one.
Do you want to see my old one? Here it is:
It’s so sad and pathetic – and I’ve been using this, in this condition, for a couple years now. I did like it when I first got it, but pretty soon all the wording on it (on, off, speeds, etc) had been rubbed off by normal wiping (what’s up with that??). And the grating blade broke at some point.
Then came the day that it took a nasty spill and broke off it’s handle, taking with it a good side chunk from the main plastic bowl. When I would grind up breadcrumbs, cereal, chickpeas for hummus – you name it – I would have to hold my hand over the spot so nothing would fly out! Sometimes I processed hot items in this and those times I would cover the spot with a piece of foil or plastic and hold a potholder over that (not always successfully, I might add).
But I don’t have to use it any longer and I have officially thrown it in the trash. Goodbye ugly little food processor!
Now I have a new, shiny Kenmore Elite 14-Cup Food Processor. It has a brushed stainless steel finish and blue LED lights when it powers on (like my blender does). The motor is nice and strong. It holds a lot! Oh, and they bought me a bonus set that came with lots of extra blades – I have everything from a french fry disc to a dough blade.
So needless to say, I’m totally lovin’ my birthday gift. I use it about 5 times per week, so it gets used quite a bit. It was a perfect thing for them to get me and considering that I didn’t ask or hint for it and I wasn’t even complaining about my old one, I think it’s even more impressive that they gave me this. My guys rock, don’t you think?
And as if this wasn’t enough, I got even more – Wellie picked me up a iTunes gift card, which my first purchase with that was Michael Ruhlman’s Ratio app. She also bought me a gift card to one of our favorite family restaurant spots (TGI Fridays). And Mattie surprised me with an older Pink CD. I also got some very sweet cards which you could tell were carefully picked out for me.
It was a wonderful and truly awesome birthday. Thank you David, Wellie, D, and Mattie…I love you guys.
