It's the 2012 Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap reveal day and today I get share the cookie I made: Oatmeal Toffee Cookies. It's one of my favorites! So, here's how the cookie swap worked -- food bloggers from all over signed up to be part of the Great Food Bloggers Cookie Swap, which is hosted by Love & Olive Oil and The Little Kitchen. We were matched up with other food bloggers -- 3 different food bloggers sent me a dozen cookies and I sent 3 different food bloggers a dozen cookies. Do … [Read more...]

So here's the deal: you want to give a homemade food gift to someone this Christmas. You're thinking cookies. You're thinking bread. Maybe even fudge or peanut brittle. [all great choices...I'll wait for my package to arrive] Well, today I'm sharing one of the easiest ways to give a Christmas treats to someone special: cookie dough! All you have to do is mix it up, put it in a container, print off some instructions and it's good to go. No heating up the kitchen. No overbaked cookies. … [Read more...]

Sometimes, a simple bag of organic cardamon seed powder being on clearance is all it takes. The price sticker said .99 cents. I knew it was a good deal (usually retailing for at least $4), but I had no clue what cardamom tasted like and I had never used it in a recipe. But when I have a chance to try something new -- especially spices when I can get them for a great deal -- I'm just slightly adventurous enough to give it a try. I took my cardamon home, tucked it into my spice … [Read more...]

This week, I will be headed to Mixed, my first food blog conference. One of the sponsors for Mixed is OXO -- the makers of some of my favorite kitchen tools (um, shout out to my OXO kitchen scale). OXO has asked us to share our favorite cookie recipe and help get the word out about Cookies for Kids’ Cancer -- a cause founded by two OXO employees who were inspired by their 2-year old son’s battle with cancer. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer supports people everywhere to help fight pediatric … [Read more...]

This month, I will be attending Mixed, my very first food blogging conference. I am beyond excited, but I'm also a bit nervous as well. I'm ready to learn all I can, have fun and am really looking forward to getting to know other food bloggers that I've only known by reading their blog posts. One of the fun events at Mixed will be a Mixed Mini Bake Off, sponsored by Dixie Crystals. Myself, and lots of other Mixed attendees, are posting favorite cookie recipes in the pre-conference "BAKE IT … [Read more...]

My second favorite flavor of ice cream is rocky road. I don't like marshmallow creme in it though - it has to be real pieces of marshmallows. I call this candy Rocky Road Cereal Treats because it has those same rocky road ice cream ingredients: chocolate, marshmallows, and nuts. It also includes cereal in it, which in my case, I used Cheerios®. … [Read more...]

I've been quite interested in the method of weighing ingredients for baking...rather than measuring with cups. Every time I stumble onto an article about why it's better to weigh your ingredients, I always stop and devour the information. It makes perfect sense to me. If you tell two people to give you 1 cup of flour, and then you weigh their flour, you would most likely find a big difference in the amounts. Being precise in baking is important and if you use too much, or too little, of an … [Read more...]

If you enjoy cooking, then you probably enjoy giving food gifts to friend and family. Christmas time is the main time I give food gifts. I bake ever year and have piles of goodies to give away to family and friends who live nearby. This wasn't a tradition that my family had, but rather something I learned from my grandmother-in-law and my mother-in-law. … [Read more...]
