We went to see Alice in Wonderland (3D) this weekend and I totally LOVED it. I adore movies with lots of beautiful artistry and this one had plenty. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it had Johnny Depp {…swoon…}. I had a couple tears at the end — I just felt so touched by the whole thing (the timeless story, the acting, the eye candy….) and in awe of all the talent involved in the making of it. Thank you to our kids, Wellie & Lil D, for treating the family.
While Alice in Wonderland was amazing, there is two even bigger events happening this week in our house.
First, Lil D (our oldest son) is turning 18. This is our second (of three) children to turn 18, so while I don’t think I’ll be quite as emotional as I was when our first child hit the big 1-8, I still think I’ll be a bit weepy. I’ve already found myself reminiscing about times when he was much more little. Every little thing draws my thoughts to him and how he’s not so little anymore – I even watched the Toy Story 3 trailer this weekend and thought about how, just like Andy, my Lil D will be starting college soon….waaaahhhh!! I know it’s so cliché to say that they grow up so fast, but it’s TRUE. They really do.
The second major event this week is our oldest child, Wellie, is going away from home on her first big trip. She’s headed to Texas to spend time with a good friend. I’m so happy for her to be able to go (she paid for her own plane ticket and is very well prepared), but I’m doing my typical mom-worrying. Will she get to her connecting flight on time? Will she get through security okay? Will she be safe in San Antonio? On and on…so many thoughts run through my head. Just trying to keep my cool, not let her see too much of my fears, and support her in every way I can.
Anyway, enough of all that. It will be a good week and these milestones really are a great thing and I’m proud to be the mom of such amazing kids.
I’ve got my menu plan all done up for the coming week and I am happy to share it with you all. I’m particularly excited to making sushi again. This will be my third time and I’m hopeful that we will make this our best attempt yet. I’m also planning to make Winter Squash Soup which is a new recipe for us and I will be cooking with fresh butternut squash – never done that before.
- Monday: Chicken Tortilla Soup
- Tuesday: Sushi Night! Homemade California Rolls
- Wednesday: Tostadas with Homemade Refried Beans
- Thursday: Winter Squash Soup
- Friday: Lil D’s 18th Birthday (his choice of favorites)! Philly Cheesesteaks, Mashed Potatoes, Deviled Eggs, BBQ Beans
- Saturday: Hawaiian Chicken Sandwiches
- Sunday: Roasted Pork Tenderloin
As always, I take photos of everything I make and will be sharing most everything sooner or later. If something in particular interests you personally, don’t hesitate to leave me a comment and I’ll do my best to post that item sooner for you.
May you all have a happy, worry-free week!
