Description

This Spiced Eggnog Scones recipe is perfect for enjoying during the Christmas season with a cup of coffee or tea. Not only is eggnog baked right inside of this holiday scone, but the top has a delicious eggnog drizzle. So good!

Ingredients

Scale

EGGNOG SCONES:
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/3 cup sugar
1 stick cold butter, cut into small cubes
1/3 cup eggnog
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup sour cream
1/2 tsp vanilla

EGGNOG GLAZE:
1 cup powdered sugar
23 tbsp eggnog
1/2 tsp vanilla
Cinnamon, for dusting

Instructions

SCONES:
Preheat the oven to 400ºF. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, and sugar. Add the cubes of butter to the dry ingredients and cut in the butter with two butter knives, your hands, or a pastry cutter until only pea-sized pieces of butter remain. In a separate bowl combine the eggnog, egg, sour cream, and vanilla. Whisk together with a fork, and pour the wet ingredients mixture over the dry ingredients and mix with spatula or spoon until most of the way combined, then use your hands to knead the dough a few times to finish mixing it.
Transfer the dough to a baking sheet lined with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper and shape the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick.
Cut the dough into 6 or 8 triangles and pull them back from each other on the baking sheet to give them room to rise as they bake. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
Allow them to cool before adding the glaze.

GLAZE:
In a small bowl, mix together the powdered sugar, eggnog, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle generously over the scones. Dust with cinnamon. Store the scones in an airtight container.
