Tips for Healthier Family Meal Planning & Cooking
As a mom who makes all the menu plans, the one who grocery shops, and the one who cooks for my family, it's clear to me that by making easy meal changes, I can make a positive impact on how my family eats. In the book Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think, by Dr. Brian Wansink, he shares how even small changes in people’s everyday food decisions can make a positive difference on their health.
But where do we start and can a small change really make much of a difference?

Men in Black 3 Wisdom: “We need pie” #SEEMIB3
Young Agent K: We need pie.
Agent J: What?
Young Agent K: My grand daddy always said, if you got problems that you can't solve, helps to get out of your head. Pie, it's good.
Is it possible to learn some wisdom from Men in Black 3? I think it might be....and this is my story:
I mentioned about a month ago that I was planning a Men in Black 3 viewing party. My husband & I missed it in theaters (our kids saw it though). Our son kept saying that he couldn't wait for it to come out (by
Chocolate Chip Coconut Cookies (with Coconut Oil)
This week, I will be headed to Mixed, my first food blog conference. One of the sponsors for Mixed is OXO -- the makers of some of my favorite kitchen tools (um, shout out to my OXO kitchen scale).
OXO has asked us to share our favorite cookie recipe and help get the word out about Cookies for Kids’ Cancer -- a cause founded by two OXO employees who were inspired by their 2-year old son’s battle with cancer. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer supports people everywhere to help fight pediatric cancer –

Food Memories of Hostess: Wonder Bread and Twinkies
It was announced today that Hostess Brands, Inc. has shut down all operations.
No more Twinkies, Wonder Bread, Ho Ho's, and Sno Balls.
Well, unless there is some change or the brands are purchased and put back on store shelves. Time will tell, that's for sure.
I'm someone who is saddened by this closure. Mostly because of the people who will be affected. One plant is located right here locally in Henderson, NV.
But I'm also saddened because it's the loss of an iconic brand. Yes,
Coconut Snickerdoodles
This month, I will be attending Mixed, my very first food blogging conference. I am beyond excited, but I'm also a bit nervous as well. I'm ready to learn all I can, have fun and am really looking forward to getting to know other food bloggers that I've only known by reading their blog posts.
One of the fun events at Mixed will be a Mixed Mini Bake Off, sponsored by Dixie Crystals. Myself, and lots of other Mixed attendees, are posting favorite cookie recipes in the pre-conference "BAKE IT
Chicken Bacon Mac and Cheese
Growing up, we didn't have homemade macaroni and cheese very often. Most of the time when we did have it, it was a boxed variety. We ate the boxed macaroni and cheese A LOT. It was a side dish for hot dogs, hamburgers, fish sticks...you name it.
I, however, have been making homemade mac and cheese for years. Generally when I make it, I don't include meat, like this version does, but sometimes I mix things up a bit and do something different.
This Chicken-Bacon Macaroni and Cheese is one such
Orange Spiced Roasted Chickpeas
I've been making and giving food gifts from the kitchen for years. When David and I were first married, I did so mostly because it was frugal. We didn't have much money for buying gifts for extended family and friends, so I would give gifts that I could bake - breads, cookies, candies -- even savory items from time to time. Making a loaf of banana bread didn't cost much, but it always seem to make people happy.
