Making cupcake holders out of champagne flutes is an easy idea, but makes a fun presentation for your Christmas parties or get-togethers.
You can use any champagne flutes you wish to use — I used colored plastic ones (cost was about $2 for 6 glasses), but you could also use clear plastic ones. If you want to make them more elegant, you could use glass champagne flutes, which can even be found at many dollar stores.
On the stem, or near the base, tie a bow with ribbon.
I used a ribbon that had wire edges because I find it easier for making bows, but you can use any ribbon you wish to use. If you have artificial greenery, such as holly leaves, that would look great tucked into ribbon.
Fill the champagne flute with Christmas candy. You can use any kind — some suggestions are: gumdrops, saltwater taffy, peppermints, M&M’s, etc. Leave about 1 1/2″ (or the height of the cupcake liner) unfilled as this space will be occupied by the cupcake. I also try to make the candy as even as possible at the top…it doesn’t have to be perfect, but you want your cupcake to be able to sit as level as possible.
The cupcakes are carefully placed on top of the candy in the champagne flute. Most “regular” sized cupcakes will fit nicely in a champagne flute. And you can use store bought or homemade cupcakes.
I used store-bought cupcakes, but you can also use homemade ones. The liners on the cupcakes I bought wasn’t very pretty, so I slipped the cupcakes in foil cupcake liners that would match the silver ribbon I used.
To display, line them up on a dessert table, or set them on plates or a tray and allow each guest to help themselves.
While I made mine Christmas themed, you can easily make these for other holidays or special occasions. If you like these colored flutes, keep a watch after Christmas for red and green champagne flutes to go on clearance and then you can use the red ones for Valentine’s Day and the green for St. Patrick’s Day or Easter.
If you are looking for a cupcake holder that is very portable and will allow your guests to take a cupcake home with them, check out the instructions for my easy cupcake holder idea.

Where did you get the champagne flutes? I’m having a hard time finding this shape? Thanks in advance!

Hi Jess! I found them at my local grocery store (Winco). But this could also be done with other shapes as well, just as long as the cupcake can fit in the top.
