I do use bottled barbecue sauces, but making your own homemade barbecue sauce is soooo easy.
This recipe is for our favorite — it’s sweet, it’s spicy…we love it. I like it the best with chicken. It’s the sauce I used on my Grilled Butterflied Whole Chicken and even typing about it right now makes me crave it!
Here’s the recipe — feel free to adjust the red pepper flakes if you don’t want your sauce to be too spicy. Of course, you could also add even more in if you like things hotter.

First used this sauce on ribs two weeks ago.. Have since had to make two more batches! A beautiful, smokey and spicy flavour that is great with steaks, burgers and chicken… Tonight I am doing a slow cooked pulled pork with this beatiful sauce. Definitely the hero in anything. Thank you so much!

I totally need to make some of this! Though I’ve been quite partial to Sweet Baby Ray’s in the bottle. I’ve got to try making it just once…and I will!

I’m glad to have found this! I’ve always thought I’d prefer to make my own and customize it. I had no idea it would be so easy! I might also add a drop of liquid smoke.

Thanks Lori! And I like your idea too…my husband is the main one in our house that plays with barbecue sauce flavors and he mentioned that he wanted to buy a bottle of liquid smoke to try some things. We always used to have it at home, but for some reason haven’t had a bottle for a few years now.
