As part of the Restaurant.com #ReviewCrew, David and I tried out Las Vegas restaurant, Sunset Pizzeria, recently. Here’s what we ordered, our experience, and thoughts on the overall experience.
When it comes to pizza, we generally order from the same nationwide chain or two. We rarely venture out and try a new pizza place, which is quite unfortunate, because there is lots of pizza places in Vegas. I’m sure many are excellent and, not to mention, they are almost all small business owners, which I would like to support. David and I decided to venture out of our “pizza comfort zone” this month with the help of Restaurant.com. As you may know, Restaurant.com is a place you can select and purchase gift certificates for a wide variety of restaurants. The gift certificates are always a great deal — you can get a $25 gift certificate for $10 — and many times you can get them for less if you buy during their frequent sales.
We entered our zip code and using the search functions, we narrowed it down to just pizza places. Since we were going to go out Christmas shopping, we decided to pick a place with both good reviews, but also one near some of the places we wanted to shop at. We ended up deciding on Sunset Pizzeria, located on the west side of Vegas at 9730 W. Tropicana, Las Vegas. As soon as we walked in, I was happy to see the restaurant was very clean. Spotless, in fact.
Since we had a $25 Restaurant.com certficate, the one condition of the certificate was that we had to spend $37.50. This would be no problem for us, as we usually spend much more on our date dates, plus I knew that we could take home any food that we didn’t finish.
The menu had everything you would expect in a pizzeria, some things you might not expect. There was plenty of pizzas, strombolis, Italian grinders, and salads. But in addition to this, you could find a variety of Philly Steak Sandwiches, as well as hamburgers and other sandwiches. The prices were quite reasonable, so I knew we would be able to order and try quite a few things, while still keeping my total under $40.
Since we love starting off dinner with a salad, we chose the large Antipasto Salad for $7.99. It consisted of a mixture of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives, provolone cheese, pepperoni, salami, and hard-boiled egg. It was a good portion, which could have fed 3-4 people. The salad was fresh and great start to our meal.
I love having wings with pizza, but it usually costs too much to buy them for my family of 6, so we’ll skip them most of the time. Since we had the Restaurant.com certificate, I was able to “splurge” a bit and I made sure that we ordered wings. We ordered 10 hot wings with fries for just $8.99. Both the wings and fries were as good as expected, although we didn’t find the sauce to be very “hot”.
One of the best parts of our meal was the Garlic Bread with Cheese. It was only $3.79 and well worth adding on to our meal. And it was so good, that I don’t think we used the sauce at all.
But, the best part of our meal was the star of the show: the pizza! We decided to go with the x-large 18″ size, which is huge. Our choice was the Ala Roma, which comes with salami, pepperoni, italian sausage, fresh tomatoes, and garlic. It was awesome — the tomatoes and garlic where my favorite parts about it.
After our Restaurant.com certificate was taken off of our total, we only owed $15. That was pretty unbelievable because not only did we leave their stuffed, but we took a lot of food home. The service was excellent at Sunset Pizzeria, so we left her a $10 tip (we always tip on the full value of the meal, not just what we paid).
Once again, Restaurant.com helped us to find a new restaurant favorite in Las Vegas. Since Sunset Pizzeria isn’t in our neighborhood, we probably wouldn’t have found it or tried it if it wasn’t for Restaurant.com. I’ll gladly go back though and now it’s opened my eyes to just how good the small pizzeria can be. Be sure to check out Restaurant.com before your next meal out — not only will you find discounted certificates for Sunset Pizzeria in Las Vegas, but you’ll find many others.
