Last month, I was invited to a special sneak peek of The Container Store opening in Las Vegas before it opened to the public. It was a fun event that had me thinking about all the different problem areas in my home and how The Container Store can help me. I'm excited to share photos of all the amazingness that The Container Store has to offer!
In Memory of My Sister, Brittany
On June 1, 2012, my 28-year-old sister, Brittany, lost her battle with Batten Disease.
Brittany was a beautiful girl who was happy and loved to smile. She loved music and movies. Her favorite movies were animated ones -- pretty much anything Disney or Pixar, and one of her most recent favorites was Happy Feet. She loved other movies like Jumanji and Mrs. Doubtfire. She loved the outdoors. She loved Mexican food and pizza. She loved Barbies and jewelry.
Rocky Road Cereal Treats
My second favorite flavor of ice cream is rocky road. I don't like marshmallow creme in it though - it has to be real pieces of marshmallows.
I call this candy Rocky Road Cereal Treats because it has those same rocky road ice cream ingredients: chocolate, marshmallows, and nuts. It also includes cereal in it, which in my case, I used Cheerios®.
Breakfast Ice Cream Party with Brownie Waffles
When was the last time you had spontaneous fun with your kids and did something against the so-called "rules"?
We did something recently with our kids that I just know will be a awesome memory that they will always remember. It was different. It was new. It was something they didn't expect.
When our kids woke up this weekend, they were surprised to find out that we were having a Breakfast Ice Cream Party -- complete with brownie waffles and bacon waffles!

DIY Craft: Decorated Metal Recipe Box
I have a bit of a compulsion with metal boxes. If I find a metal box -- with a lid -- at a thrift store, you can be almost certain that I will buy it.
My favorite way of using thrift store metal boxes is by making them into recipe boxes. With a can of spray paint and Elmer's Painters Paint Markers, I was able to decorate a hinged metal box fast and easily.

In 2009, I wrote:
"I’m a bit obsessed with organizing. I love containers that hold things. A friend told me about “The Container Store”. I had never heard of such a place, but I imagine it would be quite heavenly."
The only problem was that, in 2009, there was no Container Store's close to me in my small town in Virginia. And a move to Las Vegas didn't help that either....until now!

International Delight Iced Coffee
Do you have an afternoon pick-me-up?
I have one. And it's mighty delicious.
Since a lot of my work at home is done on the computer, I am find that by the afternoon, I'm starting to drag. With David at work, this means I am car-less since we are a one-car family, so I'm not always able to leave and head down to the local coffee shop. My solution: International Delight Iced Coffee. I pour it over ice, and then sip and enjoy right at my desk.
Tropical Guacamole
Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner, so it's a perfect time to share with you another guacamole recipe that my family loves. Just like my Mango Guacamole that I've shared previously, this one includes mango, but it also has one of my husband's favorite fruits: pineapple. I've call it Tropical Guacamole! It's great as a dip with tortilla chips, but you can also use it as a condiment with tacos, fajitas, burgers, burritos, or to dip your taquitos or flautas in. Yum!
