Ah, love is in the air and so are sweet & sugary treats!
Jolly Rancher candies are probably not the first candy that you think of when it comes to Valentine’s Day, but with a few simple steps, you can have fun making your own heart-shaped DIY lollipops with them. These DIY Valentine Jolly Rancher Lollipops look great displayed in a vase or cup (like you see in our photos) or as a lollipop bouquet, but they are also fun to hand out individually to the special people in your life.
Note to kids: Are you a kid wanting to make these? Be sure to have adult permission and supervision.
To make your own DIY Valentine Jolly Rancher Lollipops, you’ll need plenty of Jolly Rancher candies. You’ll need about 5 Jolly Rancher candies per lollipop. You’ll want the red flavors — Watermelon, Cherry, Strawberry, Fruit Punch. If spicy flavors are your thing, you could even get Jolly Rancher Hotties, which comes in two red flavors: Watermelon & Cayenne and Cherry & Habanero.
Take your red Jolly Rancher candies and place them unwrapped in a sealed zipper-style plastic bag. Be sure as much of the excess air is pushed out of the bag before sealing.
Place the bag on a cutting board, and using a rolling pin or the flat side of a meat mallet, break the candy into small pieces.
To make these heart shaped lollipops, you will need an ovenproof heart lollipop mold with hearts. Not all candy molds are ovenproof! Be sure that the one you are using can withstand heat up to at least 300° F. Here is one you can purchase online: Heart Shaped Lollipop Mold.
Fill each heart shape on your lollipop mold generously with the broken candy pieces. Place the candy mold on the parchment-lined cookie sheet and into the pre-heated oven. It will take about 5-6 minutes for the Jolly Ranchers to melt into a liquid.
Once the Jolly Rancher candies have melted, VERY carefully remove the candy mold from the oven, The melted candy is hot and can burn so use great caution.
Insert a lollipop stick into the center of each heart cavity. We used Wilton 6″ Lollipop Sticks, which don’t fit perfectly into this mold, however, it can work. The longer stick length makes the lollipops a better length for displaying or for lollipop bouquets. Shorter 4″ lollipop sticks can also be used if you prefer.
Immediately sprinkle each lollipop with heart sprinkles before the candy begins to harden. Since the lollipops are red themselves, red sprinkles may not show up the best. We recommend sprinkles in colors other than red — if you can find white heart shaped sprinkles, those look great!
Carefully place lollipops in the refrigerator to chill for 30 minutes. Gently release each lollipop from the mold and ENJOY!!
If you’d like to give these as a gift, fill a Valentine’s Day mug with candies (leftover Jolly Rancher candies would work great) and stick the lollipops into candies to make them stand up. You can wrap the entire mug and lollipops with clear cellophane and tie with a bow with ribbon.
