Every week, I select 3 blog posts that I have found that share a food memory that I enjoy. Here are my Food Memories Monday picks for the week of 10/22/12.

Chicken a la King
What I like the most about Heather’s Chicken a la King post is that she shares her delicious “from scratch” version, but shares how much this dish — in canned form — meant to her as a child. When it comes to food memories, I truly believe that it doesn’t necessarily matter the ingredients used…what matters is the way it made us feel. Her Chicken a la King brings those same feelings to her, even though now she makes differently than what she grew up with.

Mom’s Savory Pork ‘n’ Beans
Anne is a great storyteller who shares a recipe that started with a leftover ham bone and a hungry husband (according to her mom). She even includes a bit of “pork ‘n beans” history, but one of my favorite parts of her post is the photo of the big brick barbecue pit at her family home…which shows a massive amount of chicken grilling on it.

Homemade Pierogies with Dad
Hezzi shares all about her family’s tradition of making pierogies, including details about The Great Pierogi Race at Pittsburgh Pirates game. I was particularly happy to read that she knows how to make them now so she’ll be able continue the family tradition when the time comes.
