Since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I wanted to share a holiday freebie with you. I created a sheet of free Thanksgiving printables – turkey place cards that you can use however you’d like during your Thanksgiving holiday.
The download is a JPG file, so you can save it and open it up in your favorite image programs (like PicMonkey or Photoshop Elements) and add your own text to them before printing. Or if you prefer, you can print and hand write names or use rubber stamps.
You can add names and use them to assign seating at your Thanksgiving table. Even if your Thanksgiving dinner is a small group of family and friends, it looks extra special to have one of these cards sitting at their place setting. Many years it’s only my husband and me, plus the kids, and I still do this.
Or, you can create cards that can be used to label your various Thanksgiving dishes. This is especially helpful if your Thanksgiving dinner is a potluck – you can print out a bunch of the place cards and hand write the name of the dishes as they arrive.
Even if your Thanksgiving dinner isn’t a potluck, labeling your food on a buffet table can be helpful to guests who might not always join you on Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving Printables: Turkey Place Cards Tips
–Print on white cardstock. You could print on regular copy paper, but they won’t stand up as well. If your printer doesn’t print on cardstock well, you could print on thinner paper and clue to cardstock afterward.
–Use a paper trimmer for straight cuts, but if you don’t have one, you can cut these out with scissors.
–You will see a very thin grey line on the Thanksgiving place card design — this is a cutting guide so that you will cut out a “back” to your place card so that it will stand up on a table like a tent.
–After cutting, you will be folding the entire card in half — the blank side will be on the back and the design will be on the front. Before attempting to fold, place a ruler along the top edge of the design and use a craft bone folder tool or the corner of an old plastic card (like a gift card) to line along the top of the design, along the edge of the ruler, pressing down into your cardstock. This will make a much neater fold at the top of your place card.

Great idea, but when I was a kid, my sister and I were tasked with making the place cards. Looking back on it now, I think that added a great touch to the holiday meal.

Thanks JoAnna…I actually think kids making Thanksgiving place cards would be quite preferable. Unfortunately, my kids would probably do one and lose interest. But in their younger days, that would have been the most perfect addition to our Thanksgiving table.
