This past week, we tried out Las Vegas restaurant, Jasmine Express Asian Cuisine, as part of the Restaurant.com #ReviewCrew. Here’s what we ordered and our thoughts on our visit. I love it when we make spontaneous decisions to try a new restaurant and it ends up exceeding our expectations.
Last week, we were setting out to do some grocery shopping, but first we wanted to grab some lunch with the kids. I pulled up the Restaurant.com website to see what places we could find for a (somewhat) quick lunch. I came across Jasmine Express Asian Cuisine and I decided to take a closer look. The reviews looked pretty good and so did their menu, so I purchased one of their discounted gift certificates. I paid only $4 to get a $10 gift certificate (saving us $6), which would mean that one of us would be basically eating for free. I like free.
I printed my certificate and we were off to Jasmine Express Asian Cuisine. I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical going in. It’s located in a small shopping center, in the middle of a row of other shops and restaurants. Nothing spectacular from the outside — just your usual Asian restaurant in a strip mall. But when we walked in, I was quite happy to see that the restaurant was clean. It was also pleasantly decorated with bright, happy colors. And I was even happier to find great service and employees that seemed pleased to have us dining with them.
After sitting down, we looked over the menu and made our choices. I had heard great things about their spring rolls, so we ordered them. This was 2 spring rolls cut in half, so it was plenty for the four of us. They were fresh and delicious and I liked that the shrimp in them were quite large.
I wasn’t sure if I could use the Restaurant.com certificate for lunch specials, but I asked and they said that we could, so most of us did order from the lunch menu. With their lunch specials, you get a bowl of egg drop soup, which was very good, although I feel a few less green onions could have been used. It didn’t stop me from enjoying the whole bowl though, so I must not have minded them too much.
Our son ordered the sweet and sour pork, which also came with fried rice and an eggroll. Of all the members of our family, he’s the one who probably likes Asian cuisine the least, but he ate nearly all of it (except the bell peppers and onions).
I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, which I really enjoyed. My only wish is that it was a bit spicier.
David ordered his usual favorite: Orange Chicken. He loved it and said it had lots of sweet orange flavor, just the way he likes it. He was also a big fan of the eggrolls and the fried rice.
One of our kids ordered the Lemon Chicken — which was actually not a lunch special, but the usual dinner portion, which I believe is meant for sharing. I had ordered Lemon Chicken at another Asian restaurant in town and I was so disappointed in it that I haven’t ordered it again from any restaurant. But I tasted this lemon chicken and this was much more what I would expect. It was bursting with lots of lemon flavor which made our lemon-loving kid happy.
We really enjoyed our visit to Jasmine Express. The service was great and the food was as good, if not better, than we hoped for. I’ve driven by this restaurant many times, but never really paid much attention to them until I saw them in Restaurant.com, so I’m glad we gave them a try. There’s no doubt that we’ll be ordering again — I’m already considering some take-out during one of our upcoming movie nights.
