Las Vegas restaurant, Mezzo Bistro Italiano & Wine Bar, is located well off-the-strip in the northwest part of town. After reading great reviews, we decided to give them a try ourselves — here’s what we ordered, our experience, and thoughts on the overall experience.

On a few occasions, when I was purchasing a gift certificate for another restaurant, I noticed that one certain place, Mezzo Bistro Italiano and Wine Bar, was quite popular on Restaurant.com. I wasn’t looking for an Italian restaurant, but after seeing all the great reviews and realizing it wasn’t too far from our home, we decide that we had to try it.
Mezzo is located in a small shopping center in the northwest area of Las Vegas. The outside of the restaurant was very inviting and I loved that they had a patio, even though it was much too hot for us to eat outside. Inside, I was pleased with decor and ambiance. The restaurant lighting is dimmed, which I always enjoy, particularly on date nights — even if it’s not the best lighting for taking photos, which you’ll see below. Much of the restaurant was designed with dark wood, tables draped with white tablecloths and punches of red all throughout.
Since we had arrived early for dinner, we had several seating options available to us. Our hostess seated us at a half table/booth where we were comfortable and had a bit of privacy.
After being seated, we looked over the menu and ordered our drinks. David selected beer, but the wine selection was calling my name, so I went with a glass of Moscato. Unfortunately, I failed to note the name of which one I had, but I can tell you that it was excellent. Of course, as most Italian restaurants do, there was complimentary bread. It was warm and soft and served with a dish of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. So good.
We love to start dinners off with salad and the Italian Antipasto Salad caught my eye right away. It sounded delicious and I liked that it was made for two, where we could serve ourselves.
When our salad arrived, I was very surprised at how large it was! I think it was enough for 3-4 people, but I’m not ashamed to admit that we finished off most of it between both of us. It was amazing — imported meats and cheeses, olives tomatoes, artichoke hearts, onions, roasted red peppers, and Italian dressing. I’ve thought of this salad often since our visit and it alone is a reason for me to go back.
For my dinner, I went with one of my favorite Italian dinners: Chicken Parmesan. As you can see in the photo below, it was a HUGE portion. The chicken was moist, the outside was crispy and the marinara sauce was excellent. It was darn near perfect.
The chicken parm was a hearty meal by itself, but it also came with a small side of pasta. Honestly, I didn’t feel that it was entirely necessary, or maybe it could have been even smaller. There was no way I could eat that too, but David gladly ate part of it.
David ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with an add-on of chicken. He said it was delicious — the pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was creamy and full of flavor. I do think he was a bit jealous of my chicken parmesan though.
The service on our visit was top notch. Our server was attentive and helpful with suggestions on everything from entrees to wine. He was sure to share the daily specials with us too, which we had missed on our way in. I felt the prices were very fair — especially considering how delicious they were and how large the portions were.
As you can see, we enjoyed our visit to Mezzo greatly, but one of the things that definitely makes Mezzo a winner to us: the location. Sure, there are lots of restaurants in Vegas and we enjoy eating at many of them, but there is a lot of times when we want a great dinner, but don’t want to drive to the Strip or the other side of town. Having Mezzo right here in our backyard makes it even more special. If you live in the vicinity of Mezzo, I highly encourage you to give it a try. If you don’t live nearby, take a bit of drive…the Vegas valley isn’t that big and it will be worth your trip.

I love Mezzo Bistro! We went last year for my birthday. I so agree with you- it’s so nice to find excellent restaurants in the north part of town where we don’t have to deal with the craziness of the Strip.
