Seeing a movie in a movie theater has become a rare event for my husband and I.
It didn’t always used to be that way.
As a kid, went to the drive-in all the time. As I became a teenager, I started going to the movies more and more. In the early years of our marriage, David worked at a movie theater and we got unlimited free movies. Even after he stopped working there, we would go fairly often.
But in the last several years, our movie theater trips have dwindled.
The same can’t be said for our kids though. They go to the movies at least twice a month. Well, to be fair, our oldest daughter LOVES movies so she goes weekly. Our oldest son, he goes quite a bit too. The younger two go to the movies about once or twice a month because they always arrange something with the older two.
So, now I have a a bit of a conflict on my hands.
We went to Vons a week or two ago and I spent $40 on participating dairy products for June Dairy Month. I shared all the details in my post here, which included my quick and easy Chicken Parmesan recipe.

Because I spent $40 on participating dairy products at Vons, I received a certificate for two free movie tickets.
(By the way, this deal is still going on through June 30, if you haven’t taken advantage of it yet and it’s for all Safeway affiliated stores. You can get all the details here.)
My original thinking was that I would use it to take the youngest kids to see Ice Age: Continental Drift. So, I went to to the website to redeem the code on my coupon to start the process of getting my free movie tickets.
I entered my name, email, and my reward code….
Then I was able to select the movie theater that I wanted to use the free movie reward code at. There was lots of choices.
The next screen is where it dawned on me that I might be able to use my tickets on a movie other than Ice Age. In this screen, I had a couple quick questions they wanted answered. But check out question #4: Are you planning to see Ice Age: Continental Drift? I selected “not sure”, because, well…I’m not sure now!
And, then I was able to print my free movie ticket certificate.
When I printed the certificate, I saw that I could use it to see Ice Age: Continental Drift OR any other movie!
So tell me…what would you do? Would you take your kids to see Ice Age: Continental Drift or would you use your free movie tickets to see a different movie? If you went to see a different movie, what movie would you see??

Sounds like you and your husband need a movie date night if you haven’t been to a movie in a while! If you like rock & roll from the 1980s, see “Rock of Ages.” (Tom Cruise is absolutely amazing.) It’s a musical, so it’s probably not for everyone, but we enjoyed it.

I’m going to have to check this out! When hubby and I were dating, one of our mutual friends was a movie theater manager. We’d go and see “dry runs” of movies the night before they opened to the public… but I was working full time and took a full load of classes… so I’d often fall asleep! Yup, I’d be fast asleep in a theater with Dolby Stereo sound!
We don’t see movies much anymore because we have to add a baby sitter on to the cost… and our in-home movie setup is so comfy. 😀

I haven’t started taking my two year old to the movie theaters yet, but I am excited for when we get to catch a flick together. And for as expensive tickets are these days, it is so awesome to get two free!
