If you know how to make cookie dough, you can make this easy homemade gift!
Cookies are always a popular food gift, but rather than baking them yourself, why not make up the cookie dough and gift a cookie dough log?
To get started, mix up your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, sugar cookie dough, or peanut butter cookie recipes — or you could also use other drop cookie recipes.
After mixing it up, place the cookie dough in the refrigerator until it’s firm enough to shape into a log. Remove it from the fridge and divide it in two (most cookie dough recipes give you enough for two logs). If your cookie dough is too firm from refrigerating, leave it out for a few minutes to soften. Place 1/2 of the cookie dough on a sheet of wax paper and shape your dough into a log. My log was approximately 11″ long and 6.5″ around.
After you have shaped your cookie dough log, you will want to wrap it well. I recommend using plastic wrap.
Pull out a long sheet of plastic wrap and carefully wrap your cookie dough log. Then, repeat.
Using your favorite word processing program or image software (such as Photoshop), create a wrapper for your cookie dough log with instructions for baking. I printed the wrapper on cardstock and wrapped it around the cookie dough log.
If you prefer, you can include this info on a recipe card that you write by hand, make a recipe card in PicMonkey, or make your own tag or label. Another idea is to attach your recipe card/instructions to a piece of scrapbooking paper or wrapping paper that can be wrapped around the cookie dough log.
Whatever method you choose, secure the wrapper, label, recipe card, etc. with a bit of tape, directly to the plastic wrap.
After the wrapper, label, or recipe card are secured on the plastic wrap, cover the cookie dough log with wax paper. Secure the wax paper with a bit of tape and tie the ends with some twine or ribbon.
Your cookie dough log is all ready to give to someone special!
