Chips and Dip have always been one of my favorite party foods. It’s so basic, but it’s always the first thing I gravitate towards at parties. And, chances are, if you come to my house for a party, you’ll see potato chips and dip waiting for you too.

I make dip lots of different ways — everything from caramelizing onions to make an amazing onion dip to mixing sour cream with a dry dip mix packet if time is short. I tend to go for the easy dip recipes more, but here’s the cool thing — this sour cream chip dip is just as easy as grabbing a dry dip mix and it’s SO much more delicious.

Easy Sour Cream Chip Dip Recipe

This Easy Sour Cream Chip Dip Recipe is made with 4 different dried herbs: minced onion, dill weed, garlic salt, and parsley. Once you have these herbs in your kitchen (perhaps you already do), you’ll be able to make up this dip for a fraction of the cost of pre-made dip packets.

What I also love about this recipe is that it uses a full 16-ounce container of sour cream. I’m not a fan of recipes that call for slightly less of a full container. Plus, you don’t have to get out measuring cups (but you will still need the measuring spoons). You can even mix everything up in the sour cream container and refrigerate until you are ready for it. If you are serving for a party, simply spoon into a serving bowl right before the party starts.

If you want to keep this dip mix on hand, you can mix up a larger batch of the dry ingredients only (simply multiply the ingredients for how many batches you wish to make). Then, mix in 4 tablespoons of the dry dip mix into 16-ounces of sour cream. You could also mix up the dry herbs to create homemade food gifts.

Just tried this and it’s better than any store bought dip I’ve tried. Easy and ingredients are common condiments and spices. I substituted celery salt for garlic salt as I only had garlic ‘powder’. It worked great for a salty kick. I’ll be doing this again….and again!

Wait I’m confused, you substituted celery salt for garlic salt because you only had garlic powder I’m confused.

I love this dip! I didn’t have garlic salt so I used McCormick’s Season All and it was AWESOME! I also added a bit more onion. I like that I can control the amount of salt used. I’ve made this several times.

Giant Foods recently had Breakstone Sour Cream on sale 3 for $3. I Googled and found your no-fuss recipe and just put my dip in the frig to set for 2 hours before using it on a large baked potato tonight. Substituted chives for dill. The “clean finger test” confirmed it tastes great!

I just did this in a smaller scale but used basil leaves and garlic powder instead of the parsley, dill and garlic salt. If mine was that good I can only imagine how good this one is!

Although I made a single small batch due to a late night craving-this was Delish! I didn’t measure the ingredients, kind of eye balled! I also added hot sauce for a slight kick and voila!! So good!

I love dips! Yours is similar to a chip dip that I make, but your recipe has fewer ingredients. I’m Pinning this one. Sounds delicious and perfect for any gathering or just a relaxing week-end. Thanks for sharing on Sunday’s Best.

I love simple dip mixes. We often mix a whole container of sour cream with a packet of Lipton onion soup mix, Italian dressing mix, or ranch dressing mix. I’m sure I’ve experimented with adding my own spices instead but I don’t think we’ve ever tried this exact combination. It sure looks good.
