A little while ago, I posted about our family field trip to Earth Fare - The Healthy Supermarket. I LOVE Earth Fare - I could do a whole "I'm Lovin' It" post on how much I love that store. While on that trip, I saw Doug's Famous Southern Fried Tofu in the deli case. Tofu is a totally new thing for us.
I've always been scared of tofu.
But in my Earth Fare post I mentioned that I might try that tofu someday. And, well...I DID!
On my next visit, I was brave and I walked right up there and
WFMW: How I Search For Recipes
Okay, so you have your favorite blogs, right? I have LOTS of them. My Google Reader is full of blogs that I enjoy. By far, I have more recipe and food related blogs than any other kind.
The reasons I subscribe vary, but usually it's because something on a blog appeals to me. Sometimes it's just the recipes, sometimes it's the photography, sometimes it's the personality of the blogger. Or a combination of these things. Or even other things. But I subscribe to lots of blogs mostly so I don't
Top Chef Birthday Wishes
This past week was busy, yet so good. I like busy. And it was my birthday and my family totally spoiled me. I have so much to share about my birthday that I really need to do a separate post, but I thought I would share a fun thing that happened.
Wellie (our 19yr old) wrote to lots of my favorite "famous" people on Twitter and asked them to say happy birthday to me (without me knowing). She wrote a variety of people - a few actors/actresses, a singer or two, and several chefs. Well, most of
Kid Friendly Kitchen Ideas
One of the favorite places in my house is the kitchen. Big surprise, huh? I'm sure it's that way for many people. It's where you cook, bake, nibble, eat, chat about your day - and that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's #1 on my list as far as the room we use most often. If your home consists of little ones, I think having the kitchen be a fun space is very important. Our kitchen was never off limits to our children when they were growing up and I feel that by making it an inviting place for
Robust Lentil Soup (with help from Alton Brown and Rick Bayless)
For the first time in a long time, I checked out some cookbooks from the library. One of my favorite chef's is Rick Bayless so I requested every single one that had anything to do with him in our local library system. Most have to be sent to me from other libraries in our region (or I'm next in line for those checked out), but the first one I have received is Rick Bayless's Mexican Kitchen - Capturing the Vibrant Flavors of a World-Class Cuisine.
One thing that I have never really done
Free Digital Cookbooks
Cookbooks are one of my most favorite things. While I always prefer the old fashioned kind (ha!) that I can hold in my hands and turn the pages for real, I don't turn down a free digital cookbook download if it looks like a good one.
I've collected quite a few on my computer and I thought that I would share some of my favorites with all of you.

How do you get children to try new foods?
How do you get your children to try new foods?
That was the question asked when I was chatting with some moms about food.
It seemed that a common answer - or one that most everyone agreed with - was that children must take at least one or two bites of the food that was prepared.
I quietly disagreed. It wasn't appropriate for me to share my thoughts on the matter at that time, so I didn't. But I've thought about this over the last few days, so here I am.
We don't require our kids to
Winter Squash Soup
Soup season is coming to a close for us. Once the weather warms up, I won't be making it much more, so it's now or never to try some good ones.
As I was browsing the January/February 2010 issue of Weight Watchers magazine, I saw a fairly simple recipe for Winter Squash Soup. I had bought a butternut squash for another dish I was thinking of trying, but never got around to it, so this looked like a perfect way to use it up.
Now, I have never cooked butternut squash, I'm not even sure that
Baked Teriyaki Tilapia with Pineapple and Oranges
I was checking out some restaurant coupons that came in the mail and saw an advertisement for a new tilapia dish that one place was offering. It sounded and looked really good and since I'm often on the look out for healthy choices at restaurants, I thought for a second about how David and I could stop in there during an upcoming shopping trip.
In the next second, I remembered: I don't have to go out to have this. I don't have to have someone else make it. I can cook it MYSELF.
With only a
Alice in Wonderland, a birthday, and a trip to Texas
Howdy everyone!
We went to see Alice in Wonderland (3D) this weekend and I totally LOVED it. I adore movies with lots of beautiful artistry and this one had plenty. Plus, it doesn't hurt that it had Johnny Depp {...swoon...}. I had a couple tears at the end -- I just felt so touched by the whole thing (the timeless story, the acting, the eye candy....) and in awe of all the talent involved in the making of it. Thank you to our kids, Wellie & Lil D, for treating the family.
While Alice in
